A 5TR (5 Ton Refrigeration) air-cooled process chiller is a device that uses air to cool a fluid, typically water, for industrial or commercial applications. It's designed to remove heat from a process, maintaining a specific temperature for optimal equipment operation or product quality. The "5TR" designation indicates a cooling capacity equivalent to 5 tons of refrigeration.
Key Features and Components:
The condenser uses ambient air to dissipate heat from the refrigerant, eliminating the need for a separate cooling tower.
Compresses the refrigerant vapor, increasing its temperature and pressure.
The refrigerant expands and cools, absorbing heat from the process fluid (water).
A substance that absorbs and releases heat during the cooling cycle (e.g., R22, R407C, R410A).
Circulate the refrigerant and process fluid.
Monitors and regulates the chiller's operation, including temperature, pressure, and safety parameters.
May include pumps for circulating the process fluid, tanks for fluid storage, and various safety features.
Plastic and rubber industries, metal working, chemical and pharmaceutical, food and beverage, laser and electronics, textile, electroplating, semiconductor testing, and more.
Working Principle:
The compressor increases the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant vapor.
The hot, high-pressure refrigerant passes through the air-cooled condenser, where it releases heat to the surrounding air and condenses into a high-pressure liquid.
The high-pressure liquid refrigerant passes through an expansion valve, reducing its pressure and temperature.
The low-pressure refrigerant enters the evaporator, where it absorbs heat from the process fluid and evaporates into a low-pressure vapor.
The low-pressure vapor returns to the compressor, and the cycle repeats.
Advantages of Air-Cooled Chillers:
Air-cooled chillers are generally easier to install than water-cooled chillers, as they don't require a separate cooling tower.
Air-cooled chillers have fewer components compared to water-cooled chillers, potentially leading to lower maintenance requirements.
Air-cooled chillers can be used in a wide range of environments, including those where water is scarce or where water quality is a concern
